DISARM – Fiona Banner and CIRCA – Piccadilly Lights

Content creation, VFX and audio for Fiona Banner's DISARM artwork.

Working with the artist Fiona Banner and for CIRCA.art Visualise produced this large scale piece of content for the screens in Piccadilly Circus. Launched in mid July, the piece will be aired at Piccadilly Lights for the next month and also internationally in Berlin, Tokyo, Seoul and Milan.

DISARM - Piccadilly Circus

In the words of CIRCA/Fiona Banner:

Capturing the contradictory phenomena of military flypasts – “a raw moment of extreme weather,” DISARM transforms a jingoistic display of military might into a call for global disarmament. As jets emerge from an immense sky to spell out the word “DISARM”, international audiences are confronted by a fleeting moment where our language meets its limits. “The aircraft in the flypast are named after forces of nature, TyphoonLeopard and Lightning… so it speaks of our assault on the planet and each other.” At a moment of heightened tension, with more global conflict now than at any time since World War II, the precarity and contradictions in defence and aggression are writ large. “This is language in action.”

Fiona Banner AKA Vanity Press

We took Fiona’s original film of a flyby and then tracked in various other military planes. Wave after wave of jets pass over with the culmination of a fleet of jets that spell DISARM across the sky. We used C4D, After Effects and Blender for the piece. The audio was produced in Reaper.
