Introducing the Meta Camera
Professional 360 filmakers needed a professional 360 camera... So we made one.
Last year our Co-Founder, Henry Stuart, started working with Sebastian Hagemeister from Krafted on a new 360 camera. It was born out of years of frustration with the existing industry cameras. We were sick of small sensors, soft lenses, low dynamic range and poor control. We were hacking together ‘franken-rigs’ from GH5s and A7S to bodies and doing all we could to achieve a better picture quality.
There had to be something better – so we built it. We focussed on quality, creating something that could help us produce cinematic quality VR films.
So meet the ‘Meta One’, the industry’s only pro-level 360 camera. Recording in glorious ProRes 422HQ, shooting up to 160fps, with great low light ability and up to 15 stops of dynamic range.
The Meta One can be controlled via wifi or directly via ethernet cable. It can live stream via 2x 4k DCI outputs and records on to next generation C-Fast 2.0 cards. Power is from V-Lock batteries through LEMO connectors. It’s a pro focussed camera.
Also, this camera does not overheat! It can run for days, so hot long gigs are not a problem!
We have used these cameras on a number of our recent shoots, pushing the boundaries of low light capability in 360, we can show you sneak peeks of some footage if you send us a message or you can download more generic test footage from the Meta website.
Meta is selling the cameras and also renting them out, you can find a lot more info and test footage on the Meta Camera website here.
We launched the camera at IBC 2019, here’s Seb being interviewed at the Facebook stand. We got some great feedback from other creators and are already implementing developments for V2 of the rig.
If you’re a VR filmmaker, you’ve probably got a lot of questions, so please drop us a line if you want to chat about it. We can provide staff to run the camera too or offer it as a dry hire. Plus, if you’re in London, come to the studio and get hands on. This is the best camera we have used, seriously, we want you to try it yourself.
